The federal Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides weatherization services to low-income families with the goal of lowering their heating expenses and improving their health and safety. Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD) is one of 21 local agencies to deliver energy efficiency services to eligible low-income families statewide. In Massachusetts, applicants who qualify for WAP funding also qualify for utility funding. In many cases, money from both funding sources is used to improve a home’s energy efficiency. Funding priority is given to homes with elderly persons and/or children, who are believed to be the most vulnerable to extreme weather.
